If we treated our government the way it was intended, it could be managed by the three rules Smokey the Bear taught us to treat camp fires:
1. Keep it small
2. Keep it contained
3. Watch it closely
Smokey the Bear was an ad campaign developed in the 1940’s for Forest Fire Prevention. The iconic cartoon character encouraged people to prevent forest fires & protect the forest by taking care of their own campsite.
Keep it small – Government was never intended to manage all the things in our lives. Only to handle a few things: court system, local police, civil defense, encourage (not give) widespread health & happiness and ensure our freedom. That’s it.

Keep it contained – Since most government officials don’t get commission or bonuses, the one way they are guaranteed to put themselves in a better position is to command more power and control. The way they do this is by adding people and budget dollars. If tight limitations are not set and enforced, it will naturally spread like weeds in a garden.
Watch it closely – Absolute power corrupts absolutely. There should always be a regular check and balance system of public hearings as well as the ability for public commentary on both sides.
